Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway BRK.B has been busy as other firms have been retrenching. Buffett is using distress in other industries to his advantage and stepping in where he sees some big opportunities.

Berkshire announced today that it started a bond insurance company, to be called Berkshire Hathaway Assurance.
